UN Junior Ambassadors, Ladies of Code @ Technovation 2017 NYC Regional

Congratulations to our UN Junior Ambassadors, Ladies Of Code! The BSEA all girls engineering teams competed at the Technovation 2017 NYC Regionals. Students attended with Ms. Jennings, their mentor as well as with Mr. Jennings, Java programmer, mentor & founder of Code Up NYC, a program that is a part of BSEA’s after school SONYC program. Ms. Ahmed, After School Director also attended this event, and provided needed support and encouragement.

Students created Apps to solve real world problems, such as pet abandonment & adoption, child abuse, awareness of female athletes & teenage homelessness. Student Apps also focused on The United Nations Sustainable Development goals to transform our world.

Students were escorted to the event by their parents, as well as friends. This all day event required students to present to a panel of three judges as well as demo their Apps to audiences and judges.

Student requirement & participation are listed bellow:

Presentation:

  • Each team will give a 4-minute presentation pitch to a panel of judges from the tech industry.

Showcase:

  • Teams will also have a booth/table where they can demo their app and share their business plan idea on a tri-fold poster board to judges and audience members.

  • Teams may bring the following for their showcase areas but not limited to:

    • Poster Boards (no larger than one 36″x48″ trifold)

    • Device(s) to demonstrate your app

Agenda:

  • 11:00am: Registration and Team Fair setup

  • 11:30am: Welcome and keynote speaker

  • 12:00pm: Junior Division Pitches. Teams pitch their apps to the panel of judges

  • 01:00pm: Lunch & Team Fair. Teams showcase their apps at their table booth for audience and judge Q&A.

  • 02:00pm: Senior Division Pitches. Teams pitch their apps to the panel of judges

  • 03:30pm: Winners are announced, closing remarks

  • 04:00pm: Event ends
